Mobile Payment Systems

I’ve seen a lot of articles detailing mobile banking & payment systems overseas, mainly in developing countries as an alternative to traditional brick & mortar and payment systems. I’ve wondered who was going to make the big push here - traditional banks, Credit Card companies, PayPal, Facebook, Google… there are potentially a lot of players who could win in the space but unless they’ve been working under the radar I haven’t noticed any big movements to turn phones into credit cards or payment systems.

Apples hire and patent filings around NFC technology is most certainly going to force a race here. I already rarely carry cash anymore and being able to leave my wallet, or at least some of it, behind would be great.
